Interview with Shormey

I had the pleasure of doing interview #6 with the amazing Shormey! If you don't know Shormey, you can get to know her right here! Check it out!

trtlz: Hi! Can you tell me a bit about Shormey? How long have you been creating music? For anyone curious, how would you describe your style?

Shormey: I’ve been trying to make music since i was around 14 and i guess my style is kinda like lo-fi disco / soul

trtlz: Wow that's awesome! And I think that's a great description of your style. I love it, I feel like you have kind of a unique sound.

trtlz: Did you start making music and singing at the same time?

Shormey: thank you!! i started singing a little bit before then. i used to sing in church sometimes and in the chorus in 8th grade

trtlz: What is your process for making music like?

Shormey: it changes a lot. sometimes i start with a tempo and do the drums first. and other times i start on piano or guitar

trtlz: What about your source of inspiration? Where does your creativity for music come from?

Shormey: ooo that’s tough lol

Shormey: i guess most of the songs are basically just about my life and the things i go through

trtlz: That makes sense. I feel like that's the best source of inspiration. It makes the music so much more personable and relatable.

Shormey: yea exactly

trtlz: When did you first start getting into music in general? Who are your biggest influences?

Shormey: i’ve always loved music. i can’t really remember a time that music wasn’t like my #1 favorite thing. but i actually didn’t think about making it until 14. Shormey: my number 1 influence is babyface and i got into his music really heavily around that time. so he’s kinda like the reason why i started Shormey: other influences would probably be david axelrod, toro y moi, gamble and huff, unknown mortal orchestra, people like that

trtlz: That's a nice variety!

trtlz: I've always loved music as well. It's nice when someone has such a love for music starting at a young age!

Shormey: that’s awesome!

trtlz: What is your favorite project or song that you've released?

Shormey: i’m not sure. i don’t really have much of an opinion on the stuff i’ve released. i’m always thinking about the next thing

trtlz: Ok, well speaking of the next thing... You have a new project Boogie Tape Vol. 1 coming out soon, May 10th! Can you tell me anything about that? Just like how the process has been for that and how you feel about it?

Shormey: the process for the songs took a little while. i wrote the songs a few years ago and just recently finished up the production and mixing of it

trtlz: I heard Boogie Island which will be on the new project, right? It's amazing by the way! It has a real relaxing, easy-going vibe to it. Very chill. The music is so unique, the effects and everything, and the vocals sound so dreamy. Can you tell me a little about the origin of that song?

Shormey: thank you! i wrote it a while back. i wanted to write a kinda weird disco song

trtlz: Haha well that worked out! But it’s like a good weird, I really like it a lot with that disco vibe

trtlz: How is the upcoming project different than songs released in the past? How has your music evolved?

Shormey: i’ve only released one thing before this. but i think this one is more cohesive than the other one hopefully

trtlz: Of course I’ve only heard the one song so far, but I am definitely excited for this album to be released soon!

trtlz: Where is the most exciting place or most memorable place you have performed live?

Shormey: we recently played a show in mcallen, texas that was memorable for many reasons

trtlz: I’d love to visit Texas for some music. They seem to have such a fun music scene going on there.

trtlz: What has been the most rewarding thing about being a musician/artist?

Shormey: i guess seeing people enjoy the music i make

trtlz: Oh yeah, for sure. That must feel incredible.

trtlz: What is your dream as Shormey? Do you have any specific goals or things you’d like to accomplish?

Shormey: i guess my main dream is to be able to make music as a living somehow

trtlz: Oh of course! I’m sure that is the ultimate goal

trtlz: Are there any other artists you have loved working with in the past or would like to work with in the future?

Shormey: i just went out on tour with an artist Alfred. and they’re amazing

trtlz: That’s cool! I feel like tours must be a lot of fun, meeting new people and other artists

trtlz:  What does your perfect day consist of?

Shormey: pretty much any day that i don’t have to work is perfect

trtlz: Haha! I totally feel you on that

trtlz: I so appreciate you doing this interview! Is there anything else you’d like people to know about you or anything you’d like to add?

Shormey: Boogie Tape Vol.1 comes out may 10th on Citrus City Records, and thank you!
