Squad Five-O is a band that I started listening to as a little kid maybe like 5th grade during my ska and punk days. They were one of my favorites and to this very day I still have my Squad Five-O t-shirt! I remember in middle school I got to see them play live and it was amazing! Over the years, their music changed and went from the ska-punk sound to a more garagish-glam punk/rock sound.
The song I chose to write about is from one of their middle albums, "Bombs Over Broadway" and is called "They'll Never Take Me Alive". This song is a fun rock song and it will make you get pumped and it will make you dance.
It starts of with smashing high-hats and an amazing cowbell sound (<3), and then jumps into this fun jam with guitars, bass and drums. I imagine the dancing starts pretty much immediately with this song. I love their sound on this track because the music goes perfectly with the theme of the song. Like I mentioned before, the music really pumps you up and the message of the song (from what I take from it anyway) is just about doing what you believe in and not letting anything get in your way, taking some risks, and following your dreams.
The vocals are perfect for this style and might I add are a blast to sing along with (or try to sing along with in my case). The groovy bass lines are one of my favorite things about this track (aside from that cowbell I mentioned earlier!) and the guitars shred throughout the song in such a rock n roll way. It might not make sense reading it, but when you hear it I think it will. The drums are tight and the beat is on point with the other instruments. Overall, this song is fun and may cause you to spontaneously break out your best dance moves, so make sure when you listen, there is adequate space available.
